What is the difference between R410 and R32 gas?

Buying a new air conditioner is not an easy task, plus we have to decide on the refrigerants as well. Let’s talk about the popular refrigerant, R410A and the new kid on the block, R32. Refrigerants are the types of gasses used as cooling agents in air conditioners and other similar appliances. In this post, we are going to share the difference between r32 versus r410 and which is better between these two.

Here’s a quick look into the differences between r32 and r410:

  • r32 has the lowest global warming potential of 675.
  • r32 3 times lower than the global warming potential than the R-410A: 2088.
  • r32 is more energy efficient than R410 also and used is of the best inverter ACs.
  • More big brands are using eco-friendly air conditioners.
  • r410 refrigerant is a mixture of two HFC refrigerants like R-32 and R-125.

R410 is invented in the 90s and found its way into the air conditioning units for residential and commercial sectors, replacing r22 and becoming the standard cooling agent for air conditioners worldwide. r410 is does not contain chlorine or bromine but only fluorine and this gas reduces power consumption, which drastically lower the environmental impact. r32 on the other hand, is an organic gas better known as diflioromethane, similar to r410. This gas is also found in other refrigerants, including r410. r32 is harmless to the ozone layer, less flammable and performs well in maintaining its pressure and heat transfer. r410 gas has a low temperature comparing to r32, producing lower coefficient performance and r32 has higher density than r410, which makes the r32 affects the climate even lesser than its estimated in the GWP (Global Warming Potentials). Both gases have different cooling capacity, which is why r410 uses larger pipes. R32 is much more efficient than r410 gas and has higher pressure ratio than r410.

From the technical point of view, r32 is indeed a more efficient and better cooling agent than the r410. It is not to say that it doesn’t have any shortcomings – one being the high discharge temperature r32 possesses. Due to that, it can break down the oil in the system that can cause appropriations. There are, fortunately, a way to limit the heat discharge and stabilise the appliances so it can function properly. r32 is a single-component gas and its more convenient to work with. It is also easier to recycle. With its low GWP (Global Working Potential) and high COP (Coefficient of Performance) make r32 a perfect refrigerant in this era.

Will a410 be obsolete and taken over by r32? Perhaps not now but it is most likely in the future to come. While some of us are worried about r32 devices being new and untried, but we assure you, Japan has been using this refrigerant for over 2 years with more than 10 million units installed.

In time, we will start to see more air conditioning units introduced which use R32 as this will allow the industry to transition smoothly to a situation where we still get the performance and efficiencies needed for our buildings, using refrigerants and equipment that delivers a much lower GWP overall.

In this post, we will focus on the X and nanoe™ G.

nanoe™ X are nano-sized electrostatic atomized water particles with 10 times the OH radicals of nanoe™ where atomised electrode produces condensation, high voltage is applied to water condensed from the atmosphere and finally generated nanoe™ X. This process deodorises 5 common odours that assaulted our senses everyday such as damp smell, BBQ smell, cigarette smell, sweat and pet odours. nanoe™ X are able to penetrate deep into fabrics, reach odour causing bacteria, hydrogen is taken away from bacteria by OH radicals and transform the hydrogen into water. This technology also eliminates and inhibits growth bacteria and viruses such as fungi, dust mites, pet dander and other allergens that can cause respiratory problems. By directly and accurately reaches the source of virus or allergens, the OH radicals transform virus proteins and inhibits virus actively. nanoe™ G device on the other hand, is an air-purifier and filtering system that not only deactivates and removes unwanted particles but any surface dusts. Basically, this device works as both air conditioner and air purifier. It is also able to eliminate odour and provides a more pleasant, cleaner and healthy environment. nanoe™ G device is able to eliminate up to 99% of bacteria and viruses trapped in the filter. nanoe™ G generator releases 3 trillion nanoe™ G negative ions and they will spread to the filter using natural ion wind.

We live in a world full of airborne and surface dusts, germs as well as nasty odours. These are the particles we inhale everyday, wherever we are. The name, nanoe™ comes from a combination of “nano” from “nano-technology” and “e” from the word “electric”. This system features an additional Dust Sensor which will monitor air quality and automatically activates nanoe™ Technology when a high level of dust particle concentration is detected. nanoe™ mode can also be turned on to continue purifying and deodorising your home while you’re away. nanoe™ Technology comes with 3 types (nanoe™; nanoe™ X, nanoe™ and nanoe™ G) to cater to different residential and commercial needs. One good example is hospitals and clinics, that require greater cleanliness and free from germs and other allergens. nanoe™ X has the highest effectiveness among the other three in the series, which is why most medical institutions uses nanoe™ X system.

How to Calculate Power Consumption of Air Conditioner with simple calculations?

Have you ever wondered how much electricity you use every day? Or how much energy your air conditioning consumes? In this post, we will be showing you how to calculate the energy consumption, identify and determine what the Energy Efficiency ‘star sticker’ Label on your Electrical Appliances are for. At the same time, we can give you some tips to save energy too!

Let’s get to the calculation! Let’s take a lightbulb for example. A lightbulb’s energy is low, about 1 Watt.

The usage of electric: *1 Watt x 24 hours x 365 days = 8760 Watt per hour = 8.76 Kilo Watt per hour.

*1 kWhour is a unit for energy that is detected by the electric meter. The lowest price for one unit of electric is RM0.218. Back to our example, the usage of one light bulb is 8.76 kWhour x RM0.218 = RM1.91.

Now, you know the basic calculations for the usage of electricity. How about air conditioning? If an air conditioning with 1 horsepower uses approximately 1,200 Watts of electricity to operate, while an energy saving air conditioner uses 960 Watts of electricity. The calculation method for energy saving air conditioner is as follows:

For normal air conditioner = 1.2 kW x 365 days x 7 hours x RM0.25 (rate per kWj) = RM766.50

For energy saving air conditioner = 09.6 kW x 365 days x 7 hours x RM0.25 (rate per kWj) = RM613.20

These simple calculations showed that each year, we can save up to RM153.30 if we use energy saving air conditioner.

If you notice in most of your electrical appliances especially air conditioners and fridges have the Energy Efficiency Label, with stars to indicate the ratings of the energy efficiency. It is determined that all manufacturers and importers of products such as – television, refrigerator, domestic fan and air conditioner must attach the Energy Efficiency Label on all electrical products before it can be sold to the end users. The energy efficiency rating is determined by SIRIM as they will perform tests on the products. If the products passed the testing, Malaysian Energy Commission will give the ratings from 1 to 5. This rating is a standard guide outlining the safety and quality features of the product.

Why is energy efficiency so important? The efficient usage of energy will help users to save cost while saving energy. Here are the benefits of energy efficiency is:

-   Reduces cost

The reduction of energy cost will decrease operation cost and increase profits. It will also affect productivity and competitiveness positively.

-   Protects the environment

Energy efficiency will help in reducing carbon production that will cause global warming. Less carbon production means less pollution and cleaner environment. Energy efficiency is one of the most potential ways to reduce GHG in a short time.

-   Safer supply of energy

With less energy plant, there will be decrease of gas emission and will prolong the usage of natural resources like fossil fuels, charcoals and gas. This will also maintain the supply of energy for a long term usage

Now you know how energy efficiency works, time to consider changing your normal air conditioner to an energy saving air conditioner! One small step at a time!

Choosing the most economical and energy saving air conditioner brand

We have talked about energy efficiency, how to calculate the energy consumption and what benefits we can gain from it. In this post, we will be talking about the factors that affect the energy consumption. While the factors could be different and subjective according to areas and populations, most of the factors are similar and relatable. Here, we will be focusing in Malaysia’s demographics.

Population density according to area

The number of occupants in one area equals the usage of electricity. Energy consumption will be higher in urban areas in oppose to rural areas due to the high usage from dense residential, businesses buildings and light industrial areas.

Constant technology upgrades

The increasing usage of gadgets and other high-tech devices do affect the energy consumptions, especially if the devices required high wattage of energy. At the same time, as the technology advances, more tech companies are inventing gadgets and devices that uses less energy than their predecessors or competitors.

Education & Awareness

A lot of today’s world issues including energy wastage can be reduced if not eliminated if the solutions are educated since young age. Study shows in Greece, 321 students and their parents changed their routine in energy-related behaviour to more energy efficient one after the dissemination of relevant information and encouraging them to participate in the energy education projects. Therefore, it is pertinent to implement energy efficiency education projects that can further increase awareness from a young age.

There are many types of technologies that are adapted by electronics manufacturers for their air conditioners. Air conditioners’ technologies aim to reduce harm on the planet and decrease the carbon emission that will cause global warming. One of the most prominent technologies that is used in the recent air conditioner brands is sensor technology. Most of the top AC brands applied assorted mix of sensors and sensor technology to impart smart cooling. One of the top AC brands, Hitachi, uses iSee technology that comes with intelligent image sensor to ensure all the users inside a room will get equal cooling comfort while minimizing energy wastage. By detecting the number of people in the room, their shapes and sizes, locations and actions, the system will cool them accordingly. Modern Carrier ACs also carries similar technology, called Follow Me feature, where the sensor is placed inside the remote control. The specialised remote control detects ambient temperature to ensure every part of the room is equally cooled. Other important AC technologies include, app control of ACs using the Smartphone, 4D Airflow with wider angle and larger fan, fast cooling technologies, humidity control and so on.

If you are looking for air conditioners that conserves energy and suits your household needs, there are many top AC brands out there, and in this post, we will feature the top 3 that we feel you should look into. The first is Panasonic AC with its product series with nanoe technology, Daikin R32 Innovaire Technology ACs and Acson ACs with Foresto Technology.
